Surabaya

Surabaya is located at the centre of the northern coast of East Java Province. Its dominant roles, both national and regional, have changed little since it emerged as a major administrative and trading centre of the East Indies in the early 18th century. It is a progressive capital undergoing rapid change.

Surabaya now enjoys the reputation of being the cleanest city in Indonesia, equipped with every modern facility and offering a standard of accommodation to suit every taste and budget. Places of interest for tourists are Kalimas harbour and Kampung Arab in the old part of town, the Mpu Tantular Museum, as well as one of the largest zoos in south east Asia.

Mount Bromo
Mount Bromo sits in the middle of a vast plain called the "Sea of Sand", a protected nature reserve since 1919. The best views from Mount Bromo to the Sand Sea below and the surrounding volcanoes are at sunrise. still a great piece of art and architectural display, and above all the largest and the most famous temple in the world.

On the fourteenth day of the Hindu festival of Yadnya Kasada, the Tenggerese people of Probolinggo, East Java, travel up the mountain in order to make offerings of fruit, rice, vegetables, flowers to the mountain gods by throwing them into the caldera of the volcano. On the Segara Wedi sand plain sits a Hindu temple called Pura Luhur Poten. The temple holds a significant importance to the Tenggerese people scattered across the mountainous villages.

Singosari
Singosari attracts lots of visitors due to historical places of interest such as the Candi Singosari, dated to the 13th century, Sumberawan stupa and the 3339 m high Mount Arjuna. It is a moderate 2 day climb including the return trip. There are also natural springs in the area. A small airport Abdul Rahman Saleh has been constructed to facilitate air travel between Malang and Jakarta.
